Commuted Jan. 6 defendants barred from DC, Capitol building by federal judge

A federal district judge has issued an order on Friday, preventing certain January 6 defendants with commutations from entering Washington, D.C., or the U.S. Capitol building. The order, issued by Judge Amit P. Mehta, specifically applies to defendants Stewart Rhodes, Kelly Meggs, Kenneth Harrelson, Jessica Watkins, Roberto Minuta, Edward Vallejo, David Moerchel, and Joseph Hacket, whose sentences were commuted. It is important to note that those who were pardoned are not subject to this order.

According to the order, these individuals are prohibited from knowingly entering the District of Columbia without first obtaining permission from the Court. Additionally, they are not allowed to enter the United States Capitol Building or the surrounding grounds known as Capitol Square. The order went into effect on Friday at noon.

This development comes as a significant measure to ensure the safety and security of the Capitol and its surrounding areas. The events of January 6th, where a violent mob stormed the Capitol building, resulted in chaos and destruction. By issuing this order, the judge is taking proactive steps to prevent any potential threats or disruptions from occurring in the future.

As this is a breaking news story, it is important to stay updated on any further developments. The enforcement of this order will be crucial in maintaining peace and order in the nation’s capital.
