US Election 2024

Conservative radio host John Reid wins Virginia lieutenant governor primary

Conservative radio host John Reid has emerged as the Republican nominee for Virginia’s lieutenant governorship after running unopposed in the statewide primary election. Reid, a well-known Republican voice in central Virginia, has a background serving on the Henrico County Republican Committee and as a delegate to the RNC in 2024. He also worked as a top staffer for former Sen. George Allen, R-Va.

Reid’s campaign is focused on unity and aims to expand the GOP’s presence in a state where Democrats typically have the upper hand in statewide elections. His platform emphasizes education over indoctrination, advocating for a curriculum that promotes critical thinking skills rather than political bias. Reid is also committed to enforcing immigration laws and preserving U.S. heritage by conserving landmarks.

Despite facing a brief controversy involving lewd photos posted online, Reid has remained steadfast in his campaign. He joins current Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears and Attorney General Jason Miyares on the Republican ticket for the upcoming election. The trio gathered in Richmond to celebrate their primary victories, along with other Republican candidates hoping to secure seats in the Virginia House of Delegates.

Republicans face a challenging road ahead as they strive to make gains in the closely divided General Assembly. With Democrats holding a slim majority, the GOP is aiming to flip key districts, including those won by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2020 election. Del. Kim Taylor, R-Petersburg, who flipped a “Biden+12” district in 2023, is among the incumbents defending seats in Democrat-friendly territory.

In the attorney general primary, Miyares is running unopposed, while Gov. Glenn Youngkin is term-limited. The Republican Party is gearing up for a competitive election season in Virginia, with hopes of gaining ground in the legislature and securing victories at the state level.
