Conservatives drop 4th candidate, this time in Etobicoke North

A Conservative Party Candidate Disqualified for Controversial Social Media Comment
A Conservative party candidate is no longer in the running after facing backlash for engaging with a comment on social media that suggested that some people should be deported to India and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should “take care” of them. Don Patel, who was running in Etobicoke North, has been confirmed by the Conservative party to be “no longer a candidate.” This marks the fourth candidate to be dropped in this campaign.
“Endorsing such a statement is clearly unacceptable,” said a Conservative campaign spokesperson in a statement. “The Conservative Party will always stand up for the safety and security of Canadians.” The party has also dropped other nominees for controversial remarks, including one who joked about former prime minister Justin Trudeau being executed and another who made inflammatory comments about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
On Tuesday night, it was announced that another candidate, Lourence Singh, had also been dropped from the party’s roster, although no reason was provided. The Liberal incumbent Paul Chiang also withdrew from the campaign after suggesting that a candidate could be turned over to Chinese officials for a bounty.
In addition to these disqualifications, the Liberals have removed Thomas Keeper from the Calgary-Confederation riding after it was revealed that he had failed to disclose a stayed domestic assault charge from 2005.
