Cows all off Highway 400 in King Township after causing udder chaos for hours
Seven cows were causing chaos on Highway 400 in King Township, leading to traffic delays on Friday. The Ontario Provincial Police worked to get the cows off the road, with three still missing but not impacting traffic. OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt mentioned that the cows were running up and down the highway between Aurora Road and Highway 9.
The cows had escaped from a farm in Aurora after being spooked by a thunderstorm. Police collaborated with the owners to corral the cows back into trailers, although they were not very cooperative. Two cows were caught, but five remained in the fields next to the highway, with officers trying to contain them. Animal welfare teams were also on scene to assist.
Despite the efforts to control the situation, traffic in the area was described as a “disaster” while the cows were loose. Highway 400 was moving in both directions, but the presence of the cows alongside the highway caused significant disruptions. Sgt. Schmidt warned that the traffic conditions would likely remain difficult throughout the weekend.
