Clarifying Answers to Defence Lawyers in Sexual Assault Case
WARNING: This post contains graphic details.
During the trial of a sexual assault case, Crown lawyer Meaghan Cunningham questioned the witness, identified as E.M., about the cross-examination by David Humphrey, who is the defence lawyer for one of the accused, McLeod.
Humphrey had questioned E.M. about introducing a new character into the narrative, referring to her boyfriend. E.M. clarified to Cunningham that she had informed the police about her boyfriend right from the beginning. She also addressed the questions posed by Dillon Dubé’s lawyer, Lisa Carnelos, regarding texts with her best friend where she mentioned feeling guilty.
E.M. explained that her guilt stemmed from cheating on her boyfriend by engaging in intimate activities with McLeod. When Megan Savard, Carter Hart’s lawyer, questioned E.M. about memory gaps, specifically regarding oral sex with three men and the presence of negotiations beforehand, E.M. responded by stating that she remembers the men in front of her with their pants down and no conversations taking place.
This testimony sheds light on the details of the alleged assault and the interactions between the witness and the defence lawyers. The case continues to unfold as more evidence is presented in court.
