‘Trump Effect’ cuts June border apprehensions below a single day under Biden

The White House border czar, Tom Homan, recently shared some promising news regarding the southern border apprehensions in June. According to Homan, the total number of Border Patrol encounters for the entire month of June 2025 was a mere 6,070, which is significantly lower than what was seen during the Biden administration. Homan attributed this decrease to what he referred to as “the Trump effect.”
This figure represents a 15% dip from March and a major drop from previous months under the Biden administration, such as December 2023 where there were an average of roughly 11,000 encounters daily. What’s even more impressive is that out of the 8,039 apprehensions on a national scale by Border Patrol, none of those individuals were released into the U.S. This marks a stark contrast from previous months where individuals were often released into the country.
Homan went on to praise the efforts of President Trump and the security measures put in place during his administration. He highlighted the fact that the total number of encounters in June was less than half of what was seen in a single day under Biden on many occasions. Homan also emphasized that the success in securing the border is a result of the hard work and dedication of the men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol and ICE.
In a statement, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem echoed Homan’s sentiments, stating, “The numbers don’t lie – under President Trump’s leadership, DHS and CBP have shattered records and delivered the most secure border in American history. The world is hearing our message: the border is closed to law breakers.”
The data revealed that the number of apprehensions and gotaways reached record lows midway through the month of June. Custom and Border Protection reported only 137 apprehensions on June 28, the lowest in roughly 25 years on a single day. Total nationwide encounters were also at an all-time low, with only 25,243 encounters reported, a 12% decrease from the record low in February.
The success in securing the border under President Trump’s administration starkly contrasts with the challenges faced during the Biden administration. President Trump’s deployment of troops to the border and the resumption of construction on the border wall have played a significant role in reducing illegal border crossings.
As the political debate on deportation efforts and long-term solutions continues, the success of President Trump’s border strategy serves as a testament to the effectiveness of strong enforcement measures. The House is currently finalizing its reconciliation bill, which includes funding for border security and immigration enforcement agencies like ICE and U.S. Border Patrol.
Overall, the unprecedented success in securing the border under President Trump’s leadership is a testament to the dedication and hard work of law enforcement agencies. The data speaks for itself, showing a significant decrease in illegal border crossings and a more secure border for the American people.
