Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral campaign in New York City has sparked a heated debate, with former Gov. Andrew Cuomo describing him as “dangerous” and warning that socialism would be a “death knell” for the city. In an interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures,” Cuomo expressed concern over the rise of democratic socialists like Mamdani and their impact on the political landscape.
Cuomo highlighted Mamdani’s ties to prominent figures like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders, both of whom have endorsed his campaign. He pointed to the influx of young socialist supporters who mobilized for Mamdani during the Democratic primary, emphasizing the divide within the party.
While Mamdani’s platform includes ambitious policies such as free buses, no-cost healthcare, and city-run grocery stores, Cuomo criticized his approach to funding these initiatives. Mamdani plans to raise taxes on corporations and the wealthiest 1% of New Yorkers, a move that Cuomo believes would be detrimental to the city’s economy.

On the other hand, Cuomo emphasized his pro-growth development strategy, focusing on attracting businesses and fostering economic growth. He highlighted the need to address public safety issues and provide affordable housing as key priorities for his campaign.
Despite their differing approaches, both candidates are vying for the support of New York City voters in the upcoming election. The political divide between socialism and capitalism is at the forefront of this mayoral race, setting the stage for a contentious battle for the city’s future.
