Dalhousie University locks the faculty in the midst of contract conflicts

Uncertainty for Faculty at Dalhousie University as Lockout Begins

Members of the Dalhousie Faculty Association (DFA) were connected with uncertainty on Wednesday as the university initiated a lockout.

The lockout, which began at 9:30 am on August 20th, comes after discussions between the university and the association failed to result in a new deal back in July.

One of the main sticking points in the negotiations was the issue of wages, with the faculty association arguing that wage increases have not kept up with the rising cost of living.

As a result of the lockout, all classes taught by DFA members have been suspended, although the campus itself remains open. The university has assured students that housing and food services will continue to operate, indicating that plans for the fall semester are still in place.

The start of the autumn school year is just two weeks away, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the situation.
