Dartmouth man charged with string of robberies

DARTMOUTH, N.S. — Halifax Regional Police have charged a 26-year-old man after robberies in Dartmouth last week.

The first incident took place on Wednesday afternoon when a man entered Bass Pro Shop on Cabela Road, stole merchandise and fled to a waiting vehicle.

Two days later, police responding to an afternoon robbery at the Circle K Irving on Highfield Park Drive were told a man who indicated he had a weapon threatened an employee and demanded cigarettes before makingoff on foot with a quantity of smokes.

Two robberies on Thursday took place not even an hour apart when a man with a knife threatened an employee before stealing cash and cigarettes from Needs Convenience on Highfield Park Drive at about 5:10 p.m., with a second cash and cigarettes robbery, again by a man with a knife threatening employees, at Triple N Convenience on Windmill Road at about 5:55 p.m. Both times, the man took off on foot.

Early the next morning, officers were called to a fifth cash and cigarettes robbery at the Ultramar on Windmill Road where a man, with what was believed to be a gun, threatened a worker before again fleeing the area on foot with cigarettes.

Officers located and arrested the suspect, Daniel Gregory Roach, at a home on Yorkshire Avenue in Dartmouth at about 9:15 p.m. Thursday, seizing a replica firearm in the process.

Roach, who was also found to be violating his parole, was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court Monday to face charges including three counts of robbery, robbery with a firearm, three counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, two counts of threats, theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
