Noa Argamani details horrors of Hamas captivity before UN Security Council

Former Hamas hostage Noa Argamani recently addressed the United Nations Security Council, sharing her harrowing experience in Hamas captivity and pleading for the release of all hostages from what she described as “pure hell.”

Argamani, who was abducted from the Nova music festival on Oct. 7, 2023, by Hamas terrorists and dragged into Gaza, recounted the horrors she witnessed during her eight months in captivity. She spoke of the lack of medical care and dire conditions in which she and other hostages were held.

In a powerful plea to the international community, Argamani emphasized the urgent need for action, stating, “Being here today is a miracle, but I’m here to tell you we have no time.” She expressed the feeling of being abandoned by the world and urged for swift intervention to secure the release of all hostages.

Despite the gravity of Argamani’s testimony, much of the Security Council session was focused on criticisms of Israel’s actions during the conflict in Gaza. Israeli U.N. Ambassador Danny Danon commended Argamani for her bravery and resilience, highlighting her as a survivor rather than just a victim of Hamas’ cruelty.

Danon expressed disappointment in the Security Council’s lack of resolution on the hostage situation since Oct. 7, emphasizing the urgent need for action. He thanked the U.S., the U.K., Greece, and France for their discussions on the hostages and the brutal murders of the Bibas family.

During her address, Argamani made a heartfelt plea for the release of her partner, Avinatan Or, who remains captive in Gaza. Holding a poster with Or’s image, she shared, “Until Avinatan returns, my heart is in captivity.”

The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, currently in Phase One, involves the exchange of 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees for the remaining hostages. However, Israel recently delayed the release of prisoners in protest of Hamas’ mistreatment of the hostages, including coercing them to participate in ceremonies.

Argamani’s emotional testimony serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for international intervention to secure the release of all hostages and bring an end to their suffering.
