Deer caught on camera ‘thrashing around’ 103-year-old woman’s apartment before escaping
A 103-year-old assisted living resident in Michigan was injured this week when a deer crashed through her bedroom window while she was in bed. The shocking incident was captured on body camera footage, showing two officers breaking the glass on the resident’s living room patio door to allow the “thrashing” buck to escape back into the woods.
The Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety officers responded to the resident’s home after staff at the Arbor North Living facility in Blackman Township reported that a deer had entered the apartment and they were unable to check on the resident.
Officers Luke Bradley and Ryan Martin discovered the deer in the living room near the patio doors, with blood indicating that it had been struggling to escape. The body camera footage shows the buck moving around inside the living room and charging at the patio window in an attempt to break free.
After breaking the glass with a baton, the deer quickly fled into the woods. The resident, who was conscious and alert, was found with non-life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the emergency room for treatment.
Despite the officers’ efforts, they were unable to locate the deer after it escaped. The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of wildlife encounters, even in residential areas.
In a separate incident, dozens of primates recently escaped from a research center in South Carolina, causing chaos in the local community. The authorities were called to manage the situation and ensure the safety of residents.
As we navigate the interactions between humans and wildlife, it is important to take precautions to prevent such incidents from occurring. It is crucial to secure living spaces to keep both residents and animals safe. Vigilance and quick action are essential when dealing with unexpected wildlife intrusions.
