Myles Straw ends with four hits while Blue Jays wins 14-2 over collective Texas Rangers

The Toronto Blue Jays had a dominant performance on Saturday, crushing the Texas Rangers with a final score of 14-2. Myles Straw had an outstanding game, hitting two home runs and driving in five RBIs in his first career multi-homer game. Dulton Varsho and Davis Schneider also contributed to the offensive onslaught, with Varsho going 3 for 3 and scoring three times, and Schneider adding three hits and four RBIs.

Straw’s first home run came in the second inning off Patrick Corbin, contributing to a six-run inning for the Blue Jays. He then added his second home run in the third inning off Jon Gray, finishing the game with four hits. Varsho also joined the home run party with a solo shot in the fifth inning, his 13th of the season. Schneider capped off the scoring with a three-run homer in the seventh inning off position player Rowdy Tellez.

On the pitching side, Eric Lauer was solid for the Blue Jays, allowing just one run and four hits over five innings to improve his record to 8-2. Despite Jake Burger’s three hits and two RBI singles for the Rangers, they were unable to overcome the Blue Jays’ offensive firepower.

In a surprising move, catcher Tyler Heineman pitched the ninth inning for the Blue Jays, showcasing the versatility of the team. Corbin struggled on the mound for the Rangers, giving up a season-high seven runs in just 2 1/3 innings, marking his shortest outing of the season.

The return of George Springer was a bright spot for the Blue Jays, as the designated hitter went 1 for 4 in his first game back from the injured list. Springer had been sidelined since July 28 after being hit in the helmet by a pitch.

Looking ahead, the Blue Jays will send right-handed pitcher José Berríos to the mound on Sunday to face off against Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi. The Blue Jays will look to continue their strong play and extend their lead in the AL standings.

Overall, it was a dominant performance by the Blue Jays, with their offense firing on all cylinders and their pitching holding the Rangers in check. With key players like Straw and Varsho stepping up, the Blue Jays look poised for a deep playoff run.
