Delta flight from NYC to Orlando diverted to Raleigh over ‘odor in the cabin’

Passengers aboard a Delta Air Lines flight from New York City to Orlando experienced an unexpected diversion to Raleigh due to an “odor in the cabin,” airline officials confirmed.

Delta Flight 2090, which departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York bound for Orlando, Florida, was forced to land in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Saturday afternoon due to the issue. A spokesperson for Delta Air Lines apologized for the inconvenience caused to the passengers and stated that the diversion was necessary after an odor was detected in the cabin.

The Airbus A321 aircraft departed JFK at 11:41 a.m. with 158 passengers onboard and was scheduled to arrive in Orlando at 2:30 p.m. However, the unexpected diversion to Raleigh delayed the passengers’ travel plans. Fortunately, customers were either transferred to a new flight later that evening or accommodated on earlier flights to reach their final destinations.

After the diversion, the flight eventually landed in Orlando just before 9 p.m., following its departure from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). The cause of the mysterious odor in the cabin was not immediately determined, but investigations may shed light on the issue in the future.

In a separate incident, United Airlines Flight 1382 faced a scare when a passenger onboard shared footage of the wing catching fire during takeoff from Houston to New York. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the plane was evacuated at George Bush Intercontinental/Houston Airport due to a “reported engine issue.” Thankfully, all passengers were safely deplaned via slides and stairs and transferred to another aircraft to continue their journey without any injuries.
