Delta plane crash in Toronto: All 80 aboard survive, 3 critically injured

The recent dramatic Delta plane crash at Toronto’s Pearson Airport has left many shocked and concerned, marking the fourth major aviation disaster in North America in just the last month. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that all 80 people aboard the jet were successfully evacuated, despite the terrifying images of the aircraft with its tail and wing shewn off and belly up in the snow at the airport.
The CRJ-900, which had departed from Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, overturned while attempting to land in Toronto. The challenging weather conditions, including high winds and drifting snow, had already caused flight delays and cancellations at the airport, making the situation even more perilous.
According to air traffic control audio released after the crash, officials described the plane as being “upside-down and burning” on the tarmac. Delta Air Lines reported that 18 passengers sustained injuries and were transported to area hospitals, with three individuals in critical condition but with non-life-threatening injuries.
Fortunately, there have been no reported fatalities from the incident, and some of the passengers initially taken to hospitals have already been released. Two patients were airlifted to trauma centers in Toronto, including a young child who was transported to The Hospital for Sick Children for further treatment.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, with officials expected to provide updates to the media in the coming days. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will lead the investigation to determine the factors that led to the aircraft flipping over on the runway.
Delta Air Lines has deployed its incident response team to support the passengers and their families affected by the accident. CEO Ed Bastian expressed his gratitude to the first responders and Delta team members for their quick and efficient actions during the crisis.
The recent spate of aviation disasters in North America has raised concerns about flight safety and the need for a thorough review and update of air traffic control systems nationwide. The tragic midair collision between an Army helicopter and an American Airlines flight in Washington, as well as other recent crashes, serve as stark reminders of the risks involved in air travel.
As investigations into the Toronto plane crash continue, lawmakers and officials are closely monitoring the situation and offering their thoughts and prayers to those affected. The aviation community is working together to ensure that such incidents are thoroughly investigated and necessary safety measures are implemented to prevent future tragedies.
