During a call with California Gov. Gavin Newsom and other Democratic Party members, Texas Democratic state Rep. Nicole Collier abruptly left the meeting after claiming she was informed that she was committing a felony by participating in the call from a state Capitol bathroom.

Collier was voicing her concerns about a redistricting bill in Texas, backed by President Donald Trump, which she believed violated the Voting Rights Act and would disenfranchise black and brown voters by gerrymandering districts.

While on the call, Collier was interrupted and told she had to leave as she was allegedly breaking the law. This prompted her to abruptly end the conversation, much to the dismay of Newsom and Sen. Cory Booker, who expressed outrage over the situation.

The incident highlighted the ongoing political tensions in Texas, where Democratic lawmakers recently fled the state to prevent the passage of the redistricting bill by breaking quorum. Despite their efforts, the bill was eventually approved by the Texas House.

Newsom announced plans to counter the Texas redistricting bill with a new map in California that would potentially eliminate GOP congressional seats. This move has sparked further debate and opposition from Republican lawmakers.
