Dem Rep claps back at Elon Musk’s claims about illegal immigrants voting

Democratic New York Congressman Tom Suozzi recently refuted claims made by entrepreneur Elon Musk that illegal aliens are voting in New York’s elections. Suozzi dismissed Musk’s assertion as a “myth” and “completely inaccurate,” emphasizing that he does not support noncitizens voting in U.S. elections.
In a recent interview on Capitol Hill, Suozzi addressed the issue after voting against the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which ultimately passed and limits federal voting to legal U.S. residents. He explained that Musk’s claims about noncitizen voting in New York were false and misleading, pointing out that he had previously supported a measure that banned noncitizen voting in local D.C. elections.
Suozzi’s comments came in response to Musk’s appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, where the entrepreneur alleged that Democrats in states like New York and California were actively encouraging illegal aliens to register as voters. Musk argued that this strategy aimed to increase the number of Democrat-friendly voters on the nation’s voter rolls.
However, Suozzi refuted Musk’s claims, stating that they were baseless and designed to appeal to a specific political agenda. He emphasized the importance of factual accuracy and urged people to conduct their own research on the matter. Suozzi cautioned against spreading misinformation and called for a more informed and educated discussion on noncitizen voting.
The debate over noncitizen voting has been contentious, particularly in liberal localities like New York City. In early 2022, the city council passed an ordinance allowing non-U.S. citizens, including green card holders and DACA recipients, to vote in municipal elections. However, the measure was ultimately overturned by the courts, highlighting the ongoing controversy surrounding the issue.
Despite differing opinions on noncitizen voting, it is clear that the topic remains a divisive and polarizing issue. As lawmakers and public figures continue to debate the merits and drawbacks of allowing noncitizens to participate in elections, it is essential to engage in a fact-based and rational dialogue to ensure that decisions are made in the best interest of all citizens.
