Democrat Bob Casey concedes PA Senate race to Dave McCormick

Pennsylvania Democrat Sen. Bob Casey conceded the Senate race to Republican candidate Dave McCormick more than two weeks after Election Day. In a statement, Casey said he called McCormick to congratulate him, and McCormick’s campaign confirmed the news. The race was one of the closest in Pennsylvania’s history, decided by less than a quarter of a point.
The Pennsylvania State Department confirmed that all counties have completed their initial count of votes, except for those under challenge. This marks the end of the initial counting process and signals the preparation for official certification. The news comes as McCormick edged out Casey by 17,000 votes, well within the 0.5% margin of error required for an automatic recount.
The recount began on Monday and was set to end on November 26. The Republican Party criticized Casey for refusing to concede, calling the recount effort costly and lacking a path to victory. They also highlighted the estimated $1 million cost to taxpayers. Despite this, Casey praised the democratic process and voters in Pennsylvania for their participation.
In a statement, Casey thanked his supporters and reflected on his time in office, citing a quote from the Finance Building in Harrisburg. He expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him over the years. Sen. John Fetterman also commended Casey’s legacy, describing him as Pennsylvania’s best senator.
As of Friday morning, the Pennsylvania secretary of state had not officially announced the end of the recount. Breanne Deppisch, a politics reporter for Fox News Digital, covered the 2024 election and national news in this report.
