Democrats trash Tulsi Gabbard after Trump taps her for DNI post
Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has recently been appointed by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as the director of National Intelligence, a cabinet-level post. This decision has stirred controversy among Democratic lawmakers, with some expressing strong opposition to Gabbard’s selection.
Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va., took to social media to express her disapproval of Gabbard’s appointment, stating that she was “appalled” by the choice. Spanberger criticized Gabbard, calling her “ill-prepared and unqualified” and accusing her of promoting conspiracy theories and aligning herself with authoritarian leaders like Bashar-al Assad and Vladimir Putin.
Joining in the criticism, Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., labeled the appointment as “incredibly reckless,” arguing that Gabbard’s known sympathies for foreign adversaries posed a threat to national security. Similarly, Rep. Seth Magaziner, D-R.I., raised concerns about Gabbard’s close ties to dangerous individuals such as Assad and Putin, suggesting that she could not be trusted with sensitive national secrets as the head of the intelligence community.
Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman who ran for president in 2019 before ultimately endorsing Joe Biden, has since switched party allegiance and aligned herself with the Republican Party. Her military background as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve has been highlighted in her recent public statements, emphasizing her commitment to national security and veterans’ issues.
In response to the backlash from Democratic lawmakers, Gabbard has emphasized the importance of diplomacy and the careful consideration of military intervention as a last resort. She has underscored the need to prioritize the well-being of service members and their families, advocating for a balanced and thoughtful approach to foreign policy.
Fox News Digital reached out to Gabbard for comment on the controversy surrounding her appointment but has yet to receive a response. The decision to appoint Gabbard as the director of National Intelligence continues to spark debate and scrutiny within the political landscape, highlighting the deep divisions and differing perspectives on national security and foreign policy issues.
