Dems fuming over ‘due process’ for Abrego Garcia face backlash for hypocrisy

In recent weeks, Democrats have been facing pushback as they continue to advocate for due process for illegal immigrant and suspected MS-13 member Kilmar Abrego Garcia. This comes after years of seemingly ignoring due process for their political rivals, sparking accusations of hypocrisy and double standards.
During the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election and the first Trump term, many Democrats were vocal in their calls for President Donald Trump to be imprisoned, despite only facing allegations of impropriety at the time. Rep. Maxine Waters and then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi were among those who openly called for Trump’s incarceration, with Waters even going as far as to say he should be placed in solitary confinement.
Similarly, Democrats were quick to condemn and call for harsh punishment for the January 6 prisoners, insisting that they were receiving due process despite Republican claims to the contrary. Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Jasmine Crockett were among those who advocated for swift action against the protesters, with Schumer emphasizing the need for no leniency.
The Democrats’ stance on due process was also highlighted during the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, where they amplified allegations of sexual assault against him before any due process had been completed. Sen. Mazie Hirono even questioned whether Kavanaugh was entitled to a presumption of innocence, citing his credibility and ideological agenda as reasons to doubt his innocence.
However, in recent weeks, Democrats have been championing due process for Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an illegal immigrant with alleged ties to a violent gang who was deported to El Salvador. Many Democrats have raised concerns about Garcia’s treatment and the lack of due process in his case, with some even traveling to El Salvador to meet with him.
This shift in stance has drawn criticism from the White House, with spokesperson Kush Desai questioning the Democrats’ priorities in advocating for a violent illegal alien. Some on social media have also pointed out the alleged hypocrisy of the Democrats, citing their lack of concern for the millions of illegal immigrants who entered the country under President Joe Biden.
Overall, the Democrats’ calls for due process for Kilmar Abrego Garcia have reignited the debate on the party’s consistency on the issue. While they have been vocal in demanding due process for certain individuals, their actions in other cases have raised questions about their commitment to the principles of fairness and justice.
