Dems, protesters unhappy with Fetterman as he joins McCormick’s book tour

Pennsylvania Sens. Dave McCormick and John Fetterman are set to host their first joint public event in Pittsburgh this Saturday, sparking a mix of excitement and controversy. The event, which will feature a discussion of transformative mentorship from successful leaders, will include a conversation between the senators and their wives, Gisele Barreto Fetterman and Dina Powell McCormick.

However, not everyone is pleased with this bipartisan show of support. Activist group Mondays Without McCormick Pittsburgh, in collaboration with Indivisible Pittsburgh, is planning a protest urging both senators to listen to their concerned constituents and host a town hall. The protesters are critical of the senators for prioritizing a paid book event over engaging with the community.

Former Rep. Conor Lamb, who is challenging Fetterman in the 2022 Democratic primary, has also voiced his disapproval of the event. Lamb accused Fetterman of neglecting his duties as a senator and questioned his absence during President Donald Trump’s second term. Lamb emphasized the importance of Fetterman actively listening to and engaging with the people he represents.

The Pittsburgh book tour event was originally scheduled to take place at City Winery but has since been moved to an undisclosed location. Despite the change in venue, protesters remain steadfast in their commitment to gather in the Strip District and make their voices heard.

Town hall drama has been unfolding across the United States, with constituents expressing frustration over a range of issues, including cuts to programs like Medicare and Social Security and concerns about government spending. Both Democrats and Republicans have faced backlash from voters at town hall meetings.

McCormick and Fetterman, who have had their differences in the past, have set aside their disagreements to collaborate on this event. McCormick has praised Fetterman as a voice of reason within the Democratic Party on various issues. The senators have also made efforts to strengthen their partnership, including meeting for dinner with their wives.

While tensions may be running high leading up to the joint event, both senators are hopeful that their collaboration will lead to positive outcomes for the people of Pennsylvania. As they prepare to share their insights on mentorship and leadership, the Pittsburgh community eagerly awaits the opportunity to engage with their elected representatives.
