‘Disturbing’: Whistleblower fumes at Biden-era agency promoting DEI program as department’s ‘mission’

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has long been known for its commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. Former USAID administrator Samantha Power emphasized the importance of addressing bigotry, gender discrimination, and structural racism, stating that it is not just a value, but a mission to treat others as equals.

The agency implemented a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategy to improve diversity, enhance inclusion and equity, and promote accountability for maintaining a diverse workforce and inclusive culture. However, former USAID employee Mark Moyar, who worked in the department from 2018 to 2019, revealed that DEI became a top priority under the Biden administration, leading to negative effects.

Moyar expressed concerns that DEI initiatives were part of a larger effort to infuse DEI into every federal agency, resulting in divisive messaging that categorized people into oppressor and victim groups. He argued that far-left theories were given legitimacy, especially following the George Floyd movement in 2020, which led to other countries viewing the United States less seriously.

Furthermore, Moyar criticized USAID for funding DEI events worldwide, such as DEI workshops and gender consultants, which he believed undermined the country’s image abroad. He claimed that DEI initiatives only served to create division and tension between groups, rather than fostering unity.

In recent weeks, USAID faced scrutiny and potential shutdown as part of President Trump’s efforts to eliminate government waste and rid federal agencies of DEI initiatives. Musk, an ally of the Trump administration, described USAID as a “viper’s nest of radical-left Marxists” and hinted at shutting down the agency.

Democrats, including Rep. Ilhan Omar, condemned Trump’s actions towards USAID, accusing him of dictatorial behavior and undermining the Constitution. Omar protested outside USAID headquarters, warning of the dangers of consolidating power and dismantling government agencies.

As the debate over DEI initiatives and the future of USAID continues, it remains to be seen how the agency will navigate the challenges ahead. The push for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace has sparked controversy and divided opinions, highlighting the complex nature of promoting social justice in government institutions.
