DNR says conditions promising in fighting Long Lake wildfire, but winds from Hurricane Erin loom

The Long Lake wildfire in Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, continues to rage out of control, posing a significant threat to the area. However, there is some hope on the horizon as the Department of Natural Resources believes that conditions are favorable for making progress before Hurricane Erin brings strong winds to the province.

The fire, which has already consumed an estimated 3,210 hectares (32 square kilometers) of land, has not caused any damage to homes but has destroyed some campers and trailers in the area. Firefighters from Ontario, along with local fire crews and DNR staff, are working tirelessly to contain the blaze. Additionally, helicopters, planes, and heavy equipment operators have been deployed to assist in the firefighting efforts.

Despite the challenges posed by the wildfire, there is a sense of optimism among officials that they will be able to make headway before the arrival of Hurricane Erin. A press conference is scheduled for later today to provide an update on the situation.

As the province grapples with this natural disaster, it is crucial for residents to stay informed and follow any evacuation orders or safety guidelines issued by authorities. Our thoughts are with those affected by the wildfire, and we hope for a swift resolution to this crisis.
