Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman records 2,000th career hit

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman got his 2,000th hit on Sunday-evening, reaching the milestone in the eighth inning with his second double in the game against the visiting Houston Astros.
Freeman’s sharp line drive to right field netted Mookie Betts, making him the 295th player in major league history to reach the mark.
Freeman played in his 1,801 game and became the seventh player to score 2,000 hits as a member of the Dodgers. Of those hits, 441 were doubles, including his best 27 this season.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts felt Freeman had been pushing to hit the milestone at home, as he went hitless in seven at bats over the first two games of the weekend series.
The 33-year-old Freeman spent his first 12 seasons with Atlanta after the club selected him in the second round of the 2007 draft. He had 1,704 hits in 1,565 games for Atlanta before the Orange County, California native clinched the joined the Dodgers as a free agent in the 2022 season.
Freeman holds dual American-Canadian citizenship as both his parents are from Ontario.
