DOJ charged nearly 1K illegal aliens with immigration-related crimes to start April

U.S. attorneys in six southwestern border districts have been busy cracking down on illegal immigration during the first week of April. Operation Take Back America, initiated by the Department of Justice, has resulted in nearly 1,000 illegal aliens being charged with immigration-related crimes.
The districts involved in this operation include Arizona, Central California, Southern California, New Mexico, Southern Texas, and Western Texas. Each district has seen a significant number of cases brought against illegal aliens for various offenses.
In Arizona, 204 illegal aliens have been charged, with offenses ranging from illegal reentry to human smuggling. One notable case is that of Mexican national Ivan Mauricio Hernandez-Mosqueda, who was sentenced to 46 months in prison for smuggling over 100 illegal aliens into the U.S. Many of these individuals were coached to falsely claim asylum upon entering the country.
The Southern District of California has filed 97 cases, including charges related to transporting illegal aliens, bribery, illegal reentry, and drug trafficking. One individual, Mexican national Francisco Anguiano Rios, was caught attempting to bring over 500 pounds of cocaine across the border.
In the Central District of California, 24 defendants have been charged with illegal reentry following deportation, including individuals with prior felony convictions.
The District of New Mexico has brought charges against 99 individuals, many of whom have prior criminal convictions for serious offenses such as child solicitation and drug distribution.
In the Southern District of Texas, 225 cases have been filed against individuals accused of illegal reentry and illegal entry, many of whom have felony convictions for violent crimes and drug offenses.
Attorneys in Texas’s western district have filed 259 criminal cases related to immigration, including charges against Mexican national Miguel Angel Torres-Segura for participating in a human smuggling organization.
Operation Take Back America, initiated under President Donald Trump, aims to address the illegal immigration crisis, dismantle criminal organizations, and enhance border security. The Department of Justice is committed to making the border safe and protecting communities from violent criminals through these efforts.
