DOJ to open probe into TdA leak
The Justice Department has initiated a criminal investigation into a leak concerning Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang that has been a focal point of the Trump administration’s efforts to deport individuals en masse. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche announced that the DOJ is looking into the selective disclosure of classified yet inaccurate information from the Intelligence Community regarding the street gang. Tren de Aragua was designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department in February.
Puerto Rico is no longer a safe haven for illegal migrants as the Trump administration’s crackdown extends to U.S. territories. The U.S. Attorney’s Office and law enforcement agencies in Tennessee have indicted several individuals with ties to Tren de Aragua (TdA), a notorious gang operating in Venezuela. President Trump recently declared his intention to utilize the Alien Enemies Proclamation to expedite the deportation of TdA members residing unlawfully in the United States.
“We will not tolerate politically motivated attempts by the Deep State to undermine President Trump’s policies by leaking false information to their allies at the New York Times,” stated Blanche. “The Alien Enemies Proclamation is based on facts, laws, and common sense, which we will prove in court before expelling the TDA terrorists from the country.”
The proclamation, a wartime law, allows for the swift removal of Venezuelan nationals aged 14 and older identified as members of the group who are not U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents. The last time this legislation was invoked was during World War II, when it was used to detain many noncitizens of Japanese, German, and Italian descent in internment camps.
A federal judge has temporarily halted the deportations of Venezuelans under the wartime act. The ongoing legal battle underscores the complex issues surrounding immigration policy and national security concerns.
