Don’t buy Biden White House ‘spin’ about Hunter Biden’s legal saga: whistleblowers
Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, found himself at the center of a legal storm that has now been quelled by his father’s decision to pardon him late Sunday evening. The pardon came after Hunter was found guilty in two separate court cases – one involving the illegal purchase of a gun and the other for failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes.
President Biden cited the convictions as politically motivated and a miscarriage of justice, but those involved in the prosecutions are pushing back against that narrative. Special prosecutor David Weiss, who oversaw the cases against Hunter Biden, stated in a court filing that there was no evidence of vindictive or selective prosecution in the matter.
Two IRS whistleblowers, who had originally brought attention to Hunter Biden’s tax issues, also criticized the pardon, saying that it was a sad day for law-abiding taxpayers to witness such special privilege for the powerful. They claimed that the Justice Department had nearly let the President’s son off the hook for multiple felonies.
Hunter Biden’s legal troubles date back to 2018 when the U.S. attorney in Delaware opened an investigation into his finances. The first son initially denied any wrongdoing but later entered a guilty plea in the tax case after facing trial. The gun case, in which he was found guilty in June, also added to his legal woes.
The whistleblowers, IRS Special Agent Joseph Ziegler and his supervisor Gary Shapley, raised concerns about the handling of the investigation into Hunter Biden’s finances, claiming that politics had influenced prosecutorial decisions. They alleged that the DOJ and IRS had treated the case with kid gloves, leading to a delayed and watered-down investigation.
Despite the challenges, Weiss pressed forward with charges against Hunter Biden, ultimately leading to his convictions in both cases. The President’s decision to pardon his son now shields him from further prosecution for offenses dating back to 2014.
The pardon has sparked controversy and raised questions about the integrity of the justice system. Critics argue that it sets a dangerous precedent and undermines the rule of law. However, for Hunter Biden, it marks the end of a tumultuous legal saga that has spanned several years. Only time will tell how this decision will shape the future of the Biden family and their relationship with the law.
