Drone footage of cartel warfare is ‘indicative’ of danger still present at border, says Rep. Chip Roy

In a recent development at the U.S.-Mexico border, Republican Congressman Chip Roy of Texas has raised concerns about the ongoing danger posed by cartels in the region. This comes after drone footage surfaced showing an apparent cartel-on-cartel gunfight just south of the border.

The video, obtained by Roy from sources on the border, captured two sets of vehicles exchanging gunfire near the U.S. border. The footage also showed a cartel drone operator dropping some type of missile, seemingly eliminating shooters on one side. This revelation has highlighted the extent of the threat posed by cartels, especially considering their access to drones with weapon capabilities.

Speaking with Fox News Digital, Roy emphasized the need to address this new frontier of border security challenges. He stressed that the heavily armed and resourceful cartels represent a significant danger that must be addressed urgently. The use of drones for violent purposes adds a new layer of complexity to an already volatile situation at the border.

Roy’s concerns are further underscored by recent incidents of violence involving U.S. Border Patrol agents and suspected cartel members near the border in Texas. As the Trump administration intensifies efforts to crack down on illegal immigration and criminal activities, Roy anticipates a potential escalation in cartel activities in Mexico. This necessitates closer collaboration between U.S. and Mexican authorities to combat the growing threat.

The congressman has introduced legislation to designate cartels as “foreign terrorist organizations,” a move aimed at dismantling their operations on both sides of the border. He commended Trump’s executive order to that effect, signaling a proactive approach to tackling the cartel problem.

Despite the challenges posed by the cartels, Roy expressed confidence in the administration’s commitment to border security. He highlighted the increased presence at the border under Trump’s leadership, signaling a strong stance against criminal elements. By working with Mexico to strengthen the rule of law and root out cartels, Roy believes that progress can be made in securing the border and protecting communities.

In response to the drone footage and escalating violence, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of personnel, migrants, and local communities. Threats and assaults against CBP personnel are taken seriously, and the agency remains vigilant in safeguarding the border.

As the situation at the border continues to evolve, it is essential for authorities to remain proactive in addressing security threats posed by cartels. By leveraging technology, collaboration, and strong leadership, efforts to combat cartel activities and protect border communities can be strengthened.
