Drugs and guns recovered from North River, N.S., home with a baby inside

NORTH RIVER, N.S. — Three Colchester County men were arrested and charged after police seized drugs and guns from a North River home also occupied by an infant child on Wednesday, Jan. 24.
While visiting a home on Highway 311 where RCMP officers had located a tow truck stolen from Waverley, police say they witnessed a man trying to remove the vehicle’s licence plate as other men were seen leaving and entering the residence.
The man, 39-year-old Shane Chapman of North River, was immediately arrested.
Police dogs were called in, and Mounties found “numerous unsecured firearms” and three other men, two of whom were sought on outstanding warrants — Bible Hil’s Nathan Dean, 23, and Chad Moore-Tuner, 32, from North River.
Two women and the infant were also in the home, and police say Nova Scotia Child Protection Services has been engaged.
Police later executed a search warrant and found ATVs, a motorcycle, tires/rims, a generator, beauty products, power tools, furniture and electronics — all of which are believed to be stolen — along with cocaine and prescription drugs, scales, cash, cell phones and other drug paraphernalia.
Chapman, Dean and Moore-Turner have all been charged with:
- Trafficking in substance;
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Careless use of a firearm (two counts);
- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized (five counts);
- Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition (two counts); and
- Contravention of storage regulations.
Chapman, who has an additional charge of possession of a firearm contrary to an order, was released on conditions and will be back in Truro Provincial Court on Feb. 28.
Meanwhile, Dean and Moore-Turner are appearing in court on Tuesday.
