‘Efficient and accountable’: GOP-led DOGE bill aims to slash outflow of federal dollars

House Republicans are taking steps to reduce the flow of federal funds following President-elect Donald Trump’s commitment to cutting government bureaucracy. Rep. Stephanie Bice, R-Okla., introduced the “Decreasing Overlapping Grants Efficiently (DOGE) Act,” a bill aimed at streamlining government grants and eliminating redundancy across various departments.
The DOGE Act, inspired by Trump’s push for efficiency, proposes a system for tracking federal grants to prevent duplication and ensure responsible allocation of public funds. Bice emphasized the importance of building confidence in how taxpayer money is distributed and managed, echoing the sentiments of Trump’s advisory panel, the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk.
The legislation not only establishes a tracking mechanism but also prohibits multiple federal grants from being awarded to the same recipient for similar purposes. Additionally, the DOGE Act calls for a report on the potential benefits of utilizing artificial intelligence to identify duplicate grant applications more efficiently.
Rep. Aaron Bean, R-Fla., a co-sponsor of the bill, recently co-founded the DOGE Caucus in the House, signaling a united front among Republicans in preparing for increased control over Washington, D.C. with the upcoming change in leadership.
Trump’s vision for the Department of Government Efficiency aligns with the goals of the DOGE Act, aiming to reduce regulations, eliminate wasteful spending, and restructure federal agencies. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., has also announced the formation of a new subcommittee to align with the Department’s objectives in the 119th Congress.
The proposed legislation reflects a concerted effort by House Republicans to streamline government operations and uphold fiscal responsibility. As the GOP prepares to assume control of the Senate and White House, initiatives like the DOGE Act underscore their commitment to efficient governance and prudent stewardship of taxpayer dollars.
