Eleven Fire Staff Tackle Derelict Mill Blaze

Fire brigade crews have tackled a fire in a dilapidated mill that saw a large plume of black smoke rise above Halifax.

De Brand broke from just before 19:00 BST on Saturday in the building in Cinderhill works in the Siddal area.

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (Wyfrs) said that 11 crews were sent to the scene, with the help of large jets and an air device to extinguish the fire.

The service said that the control room received 80 calls within five minutes when the smoke was first seen.

The building would be approximately 65 ft x 98ft (20 m x 30 m) large, and half of it was flooded in flames.

Wyfrs said that the incident was closed on Sunday at 01:30 BST and thanked members of the public who respected the Cordon and succeeded the safety advice to keep doors and windows closed.
