Elliot Page and Rufus Wainwright Among Honorees at Inaugural PTP Pink Awards in Toronto

Actor Elliot Page and musician Rufus Wainwright are set to be honored at the first-ever PTP Pink Awards in Toronto on Thursday. The gala, organized by media company Pink Triangle Press, aims to recognize prominent 2SLGBTQ+ Canadians who have made significant contributions to the community. Each honoree has chosen a community organization to benefit from the event.

The 2024 Pink Awards will take place at the prestigious Globe and Mail Centre and will be hosted by drag pop star Queen Priyanka, winner of the first season of Canada’s Drag Race. The evening will feature performances by Rufus Wainwright, Katie Tupper, and Jeremy Dutcher, a two-time Polaris Music Prize winner.

In addition to Page and Wainwright, other notable participants include hockey player Marie-Philip Poulin, activist Latoya Nugent, and entrepreneur Salah Bachir. Bachir, the founder of multimedia company Phamous Characters, will receive a legacy award for his philanthropic efforts.

Pink Triangle Press executive director and CEO David Walberg expressed excitement about the event, describing it as a “celebratory evening of pure queer joy.” The gala will also include a silent auction, with proceeds going towards the selected community organizations, as well as a media campaign to raise awareness for their causes.

As a leading advocate for 2SLGBTQ+ representation in Canadian media, Pink Triangle Press publishes Xtra Magazine and continues to amplify the voices of the community. The PTP Pink Awards serve as a platform to celebrate and recognize individuals and organizations that are driving positive change within the community.
