Elon Musk dishes on wild 3 months leading DOGE
Musk’s first 100 days leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have been nothing short of eventful. He claims to have saved the U.S. taxpayer more than $160 billion during this time, while also enjoying some unique experiences within the White House.
During an on-the-record discussion with a small group of reporters, Musk revealed that he worked tirelessly in Washington, D.C., for almost seven days a week during the initial phase of his tenure. However, moving forward, he plans to reduce his time commitment to one or two days a week, or every other week, at the discretion of President Donald Trump.
Despite his demanding schedule, Musk found time to sleep in the Lincoln bedroom at the White House multiple times, at the invitation of President Trump. He recalled late-night calls from the President, urging him to indulge in some ice cream from the White House kitchen, which Musk happily obliged. He joked about consuming a whole tub of caramel Häagen-Dazs ice cream during one such occasion.
In addition to his adventures in the Lincoln bedroom, Musk also discussed his tiny office on the top floor of the White House. Despite its small size and lack of a view, Musk is fond of his workspace and even admitted to occasionally playing video games, specifically Diablo and Path of Exile.
Reflecting on DOGE’s achievements so far, Musk expressed pride in the department’s efforts to tackle wasteful government spending. He mentioned that DOGE has made more progress in this area than any administration since Clinton and Gore, likening their goals to those of Democrats from the 1990s.
Musk highlighted the intense nature of his first 100 days in office, comparing the experience to running a start-up. He emphasized the need to map out the complexities of the federal government and build a strong team to address issues of waste and fraud effectively.
Despite facing relentless attacks and criticism, Musk remains focused on his mission to benefit the American taxpayer and improve government efficiency. He mentioned that DOGE has referred cases of fraud to the Justice Department for prosecution, signaling a commitment to upholding integrity in government operations.
