Elon Musk poised to occupy White House office space: report
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is reportedly set to claim office space at the White House as he prepares to lead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). According to a recent report from the New York Times, Musk may be stationed in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, located next to the West Wing, where most White House staffers work.
As Musk gears up to head DOGE alongside tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, their focus will be on finding ways to cut government spending, eliminate waste, and improve overall efficiency. The goal of DOGE is to slash $2 trillion from the federal government budget by streamlining operations, reducing government programs, and trimming the federal workforce.
While Musk has expressed doubts about achieving the full $2 trillion in cuts, he remains optimistic about making significant progress. He recently mentioned at a tech trade show in Las Vegas that aiming for $2 trillion could potentially result in $1 trillion in savings.
DOGE is not a part of the federal government but rather a blue-ribbon committee that will work alongside the Office of Management and Budget to implement reforms and suggest executive orders for the Trump administration. Musk and Ramaswamy have already begun interviewing government agency staffers to join DOGE, with plans to expand the team to around 100 members by the time of the inauguration.
As Musk considers taking on the role of leading DOGE as a special government employee, he may need to file financial disclosure forms. If he chooses not to pursue this status, certain restrictions could apply, such as the requirement to hold public meetings and share DOGE documents with the public.
