Emergency alert cancelled after man arrested in Lunenburg County
RCMP say a dangerous man with a firearm has been arrested in Lunenburg County.
An emergency alert issued just before 7:30 a.m. said the man was last seen on foot on Barss Corner Road between Farmington and Whestone Lake roads.
About an hour later, the RCMP said the man had been safely arrested, the emergency alert was cancelled and there was no further risk to the public.
The alert was issued for a rural area of Lunenburg County, about 37 kilometres northwest and inland from the coastal community of Mahone Bay.
Resident Tracy Franken, who lives in Barss Corner, was feeling anxious after the alert was issued.
“I was down in the barn and got the alert and my husband called me and told me to get up into the house,” said Franken in a phone interview Wednesday morning.
“I have my two teenage boys with me and we’re just going through and checking all the locks.”
Franken said she was relieved when the alert was cancelled.
