Evacuation order lifted after natural gas leak in Dartmouth

Gas Leak Prompts Evacuation in Dartmouth, N.S.
Parts of Dartmouth, N.S., experienced a scare on Tuesday afternoon as a natural gas leak forced the evacuation of several areas.
The incident took place in the vicinity of Pinecrest Drive and Jackson Road, according to Halifax Regional Police.
Residents in the following areas were asked to evacuate: Albro Lake Road, Pinecrest Drive, Crystal Drive, and up to Lancaster Drive across Albro Lake.
Halifax Fire Deputy Chief Dave Meldrum revealed that the call reporting the gas leak came in at 1:32 p.m. AT.
Eastward Energy took to social media to explain that the leak was the result of third-party damage to a gas line at the intersection of Pinecrest Drive and Jackson Road.
An update provided at 3:20 p.m. confirmed that the affected section of the pipe had been isolated, preventing any further release of natural gas.
The company assured residents that repair work was already underway, with operations and construction teams on-site until service was safely restored to all impacted customers.
Fortunately, the evacuation order was lifted at 4:45 p.m. after firefighters confirmed that there was no lingering natural gas in the neighborhood or nearby structures.
