Ex-NBA star Gilbert Arenas’ son, Alijah, hospitalized after harrowing crash

Alijah Arenas, a highly-touted five-star basketball prospect and the son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas, was reportedly involved in a serious vehicle crash, as per multiple reports on Thursday. The 18-year-old California native was hospitalized and placed into an induced coma following the incident, which occurred while he was traveling in a Tesla Cybertruck in Los Angeles, according to TMZ Sports.

Arenas, who recently committed to play for the USC Trojans men’s basketball team, was considered one of the top shooting guards in the 2026 class before requesting to be reclassified as a senior to graduate from high school in 2025.

Gilbert Arenas, who spent 12 seasons in the NBA playing for four different franchises, hosts the basketball-centric podcast “Gil’s Arena.” He shared a special moment with his son at the McDonald’s All-American Game in New York earlier this month, where they discussed their shared love for the game.

During an episode of Philadelphia 76ers guard Paul George’s “Podcast P,” Gilbert opened up about coaching his son, emphasizing their rigorous training regimen. The elder Arenas highlighted Alijah’s dedication and coachability, detailing their early morning shooting sessions and daily workouts.

Gilbert, who has five children, four with his ex-wife Laura Govan, expressed pride in Alijah’s progress and potential to reach the NBA level. The father-son duo’s bond and shared passion for basketball were evident in their interactions both on and off the court.

As Alijah continues his recovery from the accident, the basketball community is sending thoughts and prayers for his swift and full recovery. Fans eagerly await his return to the court, where he is expected to make a significant impact for the USC Trojans and beyond.
