Experts sound the alarm over ‘shocking’ abortion bill study showing critical risks to women
A recent study has shed light on the significant number of “serious adverse events” that women experience after taking mifepristone, also known as the “abortion pill.” The findings of this study have caused an uproar in the pro-life community, prompting experts to speak out about the implications for women in the United States.
Katie Glenn Daniel, the Director of Legal Affairs at SBA Pro Life America, expressed shock at the study’s results, which revealed that more than one in ten women who take the abortion pill end up in the emergency room seeking follow-up care. This rate is significantly higher than what is indicated on the FDA-approved drug label, which claims that only one in 20 women will experience such complications.
The study, conducted by the Ethics & Public Policy Center in Washington, D.C., found that the rate of serious side effects associated with mifepristone is 22 times higher than what is stated on the drug label. Nearly 11% of women reported experiencing infections, hemorrhaging, or other serious or life-threatening adverse events after undergoing a medication abortion with mifepristone.
Dr. Christina Francis, a board-certified OB/GYN, emphasized the dangers that abortion drugs pose to women based on her clinical experience. She has witnessed patients suffer from life-threatening complications such as hemorrhage and infection after taking these drugs, which are now available online without in-person physician supervision.
Mifepristone is the most well-known abortion pill in the United States, and approximately 63% of all abortions in 2023 were medication abortions. The Biden administration’s decision to make mifepristone available through mail-order has raised concerns about the lack of medical oversight and potential risks to women’s health and safety.
