Families call for accountability in deaths of 2 men in northern Alberta motorcycle crash

Dozens of protesters gathered outside RCMP headquarters in Edmonton on Friday to demand accountability in the case of two men killed in a tragic highway crash last summer. The families and friends of Tyler Mansell-Duboski, 33, of Edmonton, and Laurent Isadore, 38, of Driftpile First Nation organized the demonstration to call for justice.
The fatal accident occurred on August 31 near Faust, a hamlet located 300 kilometers northwest of Edmonton. The two men were part of a convoy of motorcycles participating in a charity ride when a semi-truck crossed the center line on Highway 2, resulting in the tragic deaths of Isadore and Mansell-Duboski and injuring four others. Despite the severity of the incident, no charges have been laid against the truck driver, leaving the families and survivors frustrated.
Tiannah Mansell, Tyler Mansell-Duboski’s sister, expressed the family’s anguish and impatience with the lack of progress in the RCMP’s investigation. She emphasized the emotional toll the accident has taken on the survivors, who are haunted by nightmares and struggling to cope without closure. The community is grieving the loss of two individuals who were dedicated to giving back and making a positive impact.
Mansell described her brother as a loving and generous person who overcame adversity in his life to become a devoted father and uncle. Isadore, on the other hand, was a respected member of the Woodlands Cree community, known for his cultural knowledge and commitment to helping those in need. The charity ride they were a part of was a testament to their compassion and desire to support the less fortunate.
At the protest, Isadore’s fiancĂ©e, Brenda Powder, honored his memory by singing a traditional song passed down by his mother. Powder highlighted Isadore’s ability to bring healing and unconditional love to everyone he encountered, leaving a lasting impact on those around him. The community has rallied around the bereaved families, offering support and solidarity as they await justice for their loved ones.
As charges are pending in the case, the protesters are urging the RCMP to expedite their investigation and hold the responsible parties accountable. The families and survivors deserve closure and justice for the tragic loss they have endured. The demonstration serves as a poignant reminder of the need for transparency and accountability in handling such devastating incidents.
