US Election 2024

Senate Dems rail against ‘shadow speaker’ billionaire Elon Musk: ‘Not elected to anything’

In a stunning turn of events, Senate Democrats have labeled billionaire Elon Musk as the “co-president” and “shadow speaker” after he played a key role in the implosion of the original stopgap spending deal on Wednesday. Musk’s influence ultimately led President-elect Donald Trump to come out against the bipartisan bill, causing it to fail.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts expressed her disbelief at Musk’s ability to sway the decision-making process, stating that he “seems to be the guy in charge of the country now.” This sentiment was echoed by other Democratic lawmakers who were frustrated by Musk’s apparent control over Trump and the Republican Party.

The failure of the spending bill has put the government at risk of a partial shutdown if a new measure is not passed by Congress and signed by President Joe Biden before midnight on Saturday morning. The U.S. national debt continues to climb rapidly, with the current debt standing at an alarming $36,167,604,149,955.61.

After a 1,547-page short-term spending bill was introduced this week, Musk took to social media to criticize it for its excessive length, cost, and seemingly irrelevant provisions. His criticisms were joined by other critics, including President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance, leading to the bill’s demise.

Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania went as far as to declare Musk as the “shadow speaker of the House,” suggesting that he holds significant influence over Republican lawmakers. Senator Raphael Warnock of Georgia criticized Republicans for listening to Musk and Trump instead of prioritizing the needs of the American people.

Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona highlighted the fact that Musk is not an elected official and does not hold any official government position. He expressed concern over the potential consequences of a government shutdown, which could result in people losing their jobs and not getting paid over the holidays.

While Democrats have accused Trump of being influenced by Musk, Republicans have pushed back against this notion. Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma emphasized that there are many advisors around the president-elect and that Musk does not have complete control over his decisions.

Musk was previously appointed by Trump to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a proposed advisory board aimed at eliminating government waste. His involvement in government affairs has sparked controversy and raised questions about the extent of his influence in shaping national policies.

The ongoing political turmoil has left lawmakers scrambling to find a solution before the looming deadline, with the fate of the government hanging in the balance. As the drama unfolds, the nation watches anxiously to see how the situation will be resolved.
