FBI joins investigation into fatal shooting of Congressional intern in DC

The search for the person responsible for the tragic shooting death of 21-year-old congressional intern Eric Tarpinian-Jachym in Washington, D.C. has intensified, with the FBI joining efforts to find the perpetrator. Tarpinian-Jachym, a student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, was shot and killed on June 30, and succumbed to his injuries on July 1. The shooting, which also injured a 16-year-old male and an adult female, took place on the 1200 block of 7th Street, Northwest.

According to investigators, multiple individuals exited a car and began firing shots at a group of people, with Tarpinian-Jachym being an unintended target. The Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the case, and the FBI has stepped in to assist in the investigation.

Former Washington, D.C. homicide detective and Fox News contributor Ted Williams expressed his thoughts on the case, stating that the FBI’s involvement is likely due to Tarpinian-Jachym’s status as a congressional intern. Tarpinian-Jachym was interning for Rep. Ron Estes, R-Kan., and was scheduled to return for his senior year at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he was studying finance with a minor in political science. Estes praised Tarpinian-Jachym for his dedication and kindness, and urged prayers for his family during this difficult time.

In a statement, Tarpinian-Jachym’s parents, Tamara and Robert Jachym, expressed their devastation over the loss of their son, describing him as a bright, kind-hearted individual with a passion for the outdoors and public service. They emphasized his commitment to making the world a better place through his work and activism.
