In the midst of President Donald Trump’s push for a tougher stance on crime in Washington, D.C., magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia has openly criticized U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s office, as reported by the Associated Press.

Faruqui was quoted as saying, “It’s not fair to say they’re losing credibility. We’re past that now,” and later added, “There’s no credibility left.” These remarks were made in reference to Pirro’s office and its handling of legal matters.

Pirro, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, did not take Faruqui’s comments lightly and responded by criticizing him on social media.

Pirro accused Faruqui of showing favoritism towards individuals who break the law, possess illegal weapons, and advocate for the release of dangerous criminals into society. She expressed her disappointment in Faruqui’s actions and stated that his decisions do not align with the values of safe communities and law enforcement that Americans desire.

The AP reported that Faruqui’s criticism of Pirro’s office came during a hearing where he agreed to dismiss a federal case against Edward Alexander Dana, who was accused of threatening to assassinate the president.

An affidavit presented in the case detailed Dana’s threats and actions, leading to his arrest.

Dana’s case did not result in an indictment by a grand jury, but he now faces multiple misdemeanor charges in D.C. Superior Court.

“Instead of the outrage that should be engendered by a threat to kill the President of the United States, the grand jury refused to indict. Our duty as prosecutors is clear: to enforce the law,” Pirro stated in response to the outcome.

Pirro emphasized that even if a grand jury does not indict, the pursuit of justice does not end. She vowed to continue seeking justice through the Superior Court, where Dana now faces criminal charges.
