Canadian Leylah Fernandez and Nadiia Kichenok Fall Short in Women’s Doubles at Adelaide Open

After a tough singles match defeat, Canadian tennis player Leylah Fernandez and her partner Nadiia Kichenok from Ukraine faced another loss in the women’s doubles event at the Adelaide Open. The duo was defeated 6-1, 6-4 by the Mexican-American team of Giuliana Olmos and Desirae Krawczyk on Monday at Memorial Drive Tennis Park.

The match, which lasted only 73 minutes, saw Olmos and Krawczyk showcasing their dominance on the defensive end. They won 21 receiving points compared to Fernandez and Kichenok’s 11. With a 75% first serve win rate and 79% on second serves, Olmos and Krawczyk outperformed their opponents who had a 61% and 47% success rate respectively. Additionally, the winning duo secured nine service games while Fernandez and Kichenok only managed to win five.

Despite a competitive game, neither team managed to serve an ace or commit a double fault during the match. Fernandez and Kichenok saved three out of six break points but struggled to capitalize on their rivals’ serves.

This result adds to Fernandez’s challenging run at the Adelaide Open, following her singles defeat. The young Canadian will be looking to bounce back in the upcoming matches and showcase her talent on the court.
