Fetterman open to potential Greenland acquisition, declares support for Laken Riley Act

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., recently expressed openness to the idea of the U.S. acquiring Greenland, a concept that President-elect Donald Trump has shown interest in. Fetterman emphasized that he does not support forcefully seizing Greenland but pointed to historical American land acquisitions such as the Louisiana Purchase and the purchase of Alaska.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity.” He went on to say, “Greenland is an incredible place, and the people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation. We will protect it, and cherish it, from a very vicious outside World. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”

Donald Trump Jr. recently visited Greenland, a territory that has its own extensive local government but is also part of the Realm of Denmark. Greenland was a Danish colony until 1953 when it was redefined as a district of Denmark. In addition to its local government, Greenland has two representatives in the Danish Parliament.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Laken Riley Act in a bipartisan vote, with Fetterman indicating his support for its passage in the Senate. The legislation, named after a nursing student slain by an illegal alien, calls for the Homeland Security secretary to issue a detainer for illegal aliens involved in theft or similar offenses.

Fetterman emphasized the importance of removing illegal immigrants who commit crimes, stating that it should not be a controversial issue. He also highlighted the significance of Senate Democrats rallying support for crucial measures like the Laken Riley Act.

As discussions around the potential acquisition of Greenland continue, Fetterman’s willingness to entertain the concept underscores the complexities and implications of such a move. The integration of Greenland into the U.S. would undoubtedly have far-reaching consequences, both politically and economically. It remains to be seen how this proposal will unfold in the coming months, shaping the future of U.S. foreign policy and territorial expansion.
