Fetterman says Dems shouldn’t ‘freak out’ over everything Trump does: ‘It’s going to be 4 years’

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., emphasized the importance of not overreacting to every move made by President-elect Trump in a recent interview with CNN’s “State of the Union” host Jake Tapper. Fetterman urged Democrats to remain calm and not “freak out” over every tweet or appointment, noting that it is still early in Trump’s term.

Fetterman highlighted the Republican Party’s current control of the White House, House of Representatives, Senate, and Supreme Court as a cause for concern. He warned that Republicans have the power to shape policy for at least the next two years, and urged Democrats to focus on the bigger picture rather than getting caught up in minor details.

While Fetterman expressed optimism about some of Trump’s Cabinet picks, such as Sen. Marco Rubio for secretary of state and Rep. Elise Stefanik for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, he criticized the selection of former-Rep. Matt Gaetz as attorney general. Gaetz, who resigned from Congress last week, faces scrutiny over past allegations of sex trafficking. Despite the Department of Justice’s decision not to charge him, a House Ethics Committee investigation into Gaetz’s conduct is still pending.

Fetterman stressed the need for Democrats to prioritize strategic action over reactionary responses to Trump’s administration. He underscored the importance of staying focused on key issues and avoiding distractions that could hinder progress.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, Fetterman’s message serves as a reminder for Democrats to stay vigilant and maintain a steady course in navigating the challenges ahead. By staying engaged and informed, Democrats can effectively advocate for their values and push for meaningful change in the face of opposition.
