Fever, Mystics WNBA preseason game gets heated

The Indiana Fever and the Washington Mystics kicked off the WNBA preseason with a heated matchup that ended in overtime. The game was filled with intensity and physical play, as players from both teams clashed on the court.

One notable incident occurred when Fever guard Sophie Cunningham got into a scuffle with Mystics rookie Kiki Iriafen. Cunningham aggressively went up for a defensive rebound, leading to a confrontation between the two players. The tension escalated as Fever guard Lexie Hull had to step in to separate them.

Mystics guard Morgan Jones also found herself in a physical altercation with Cunningham, resulting in a Flagrant 1 foul. The game was filled with moments of aggression and intensity as both teams fought for control on the court.

Despite the physical nature of the game, Fever head coach Stephanie White praised Cunningham’s competitive spirit and toughness. White highlighted Cunningham’s energy and versatility, noting that she raises the level of play for her team whenever she steps on the court.

In the end, Indiana emerged victorious with a 79-74 win in overtime. The Mystics may have struggled in the previous season, but they made it clear in the preseason that they were not going to be pushed around by any team.

Looking ahead, the Mystics will start their season on May 16 against the Atlanta Dream, while the Fever will begin their season on May 17 against the Chicago Sky. Both teams are gearing up for a competitive season ahead.
