Fight between bald eagle and Canada goose in Burlington bay ‘very symbolic,’ says photographer
A fascinating and rare event unfolded at the LaSalle Marina in Burlington, Ont., when a bald eagle attempted to attack a Canada goose sitting on an icy bay. Mervyn Sequeira, a retired airline captain and wildlife photographer, witnessed and captured the intense 20-minute battle between the two iconic birds.
Sequeira, who has been photographing Canadian wildlife for over 30 years, described the bald eagle making several attempts to attack the goose, which appeared to be sick and unstable on its feet. Despite the eagle’s aggressive advances, the goose held its ground and ultimately survived the encounter. Sequeira emphasized that this kind of interaction between the national bird of the U.S. and the iconic Canadian animal is uncommon and truly remarkable.
While some observers interpreted the eagle-goose battle in a political context, Sequeira maintained that it was simply a demonstration of how nature operates.
