Fire rescue: Passing motorists help save elderly woman from burning car

Two passing motorists came to the aid of a police officer in Chester, New York, as they helped save an elderly woman trapped in a burning vehicle following a crash on Kings Highway. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on a Sunday when Chester police were dispatched to the scene of a rollover crash.
Officer Nicholas Contino was the first to arrive at the scene, where he was informed that the driver was trapped in the vehicle, which was engulfed in flames. Without hesitation, Contino gave his fire extinguisher to one of the Good Samaritan motorists who quickly sprang into action, extinguishing the fire to reach the trapped woman.
In a heart-pounding video posted on Facebook, Contino can be seen breaking through the glass sunroof to rescue the driver from the burning vehicle. With the help of the passing motorists and a paramedic from Empress EMS, they were able to remove the woman from the car and away from the fire. The victim, a 68-year-old resident of Warwick, NY, suffered third-degree burns but is currently in stable condition in a local hospital.
The heroic efforts of Officer Contino and the quick thinking of the passing motorists undoubtedly saved the woman’s life. Chester PD commended Contino for his bravery and swift action in ensuring the motorist’s chances for survival.
