Firefighters free driver from dump truck after Kings County crash

The driver of a dump truck was taken to hospital after the vehicle left the road in Port Williams on Wednesday afternoon.

The truck was hauling a tractor when it left the Church Street on a bend shortly after 1 p.m.

The vehicle went into the ditch and stopped when it hit a driveway, ending up on an angle. The tractor came off the trailer it was being hauled on, and one the truck’s tires was ripped off in the impact.

Firefighters from Kentville, New Minas and Wolfville were also called to the scene. Crews initially tried to get the occupant out through the elevated driver’s side door, but when that proved difficult they forced open the jammed passenger door instead.

The crews dealt with a spill of diesel fuel on the road and ditches, which were full of flowing water from the heavy rain falling at the time.

The driver was the only person In the truck.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
