Florida man arrested for shooting neighbor’s pregnant cow, deputies say
A shocking incident occurred in Florida, where a man was arrested for shooting his neighbor’s pregnant cow multiple times after it strayed onto his property. Hung Trinh, 54, now faces charges of animal cruelty and grand theft of a commercial farm animal following the disturbing incident.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Trinh allegedly shot the two-year-old cow five times in its gut, chest, and rear leg. Deputies responded to a call from a North Fort Myers home on May 13 and discovered the wounded animal struggling to stand or walk. Despite efforts to save the cow, a veterinarian determined that euthanasia was the only humane option due to its severe injuries.
It was reported that the neighbor raises livestock, including the calf that was shot, for commercial purposes. Trinh had reportedly been upset about animals crossing over onto his property in the past and had made threats to shoot any animals that entered his land. His neighbor informed deputies about Trinh’s previous warnings, which led to the investigation and subsequent arrest.
Detectives obtained a search warrant and found a .22 caliber gun in a shed on Trinh’s property, linking him to the heinous act. Sheriff Carmine Marceno condemned the incident, stating, “There will be accountability for taking your frustrations out on innocent animals, in this case multiple felonies and jail time.”
Trinh was taken into custody on a $100,000 bond, with his arraignment scheduled for June 16. The sheriff emphasized the importance of protecting animals in the farming community and commended the Agriculture Unit for their swift response in making an arrest.
