Florida man berated, physically abused child for nearly 30 minutes over missing couch cushion: deputies

A disturbing incident in Kissimmee, Florida has led to the arrest of Lance Rachel Sr. on child abuse allegations. The 42-year-old man was charged with aggravated child abuse and battery by strangulation after reportedly screaming obscenities and physically abusing a child for approximately 30 minutes over a missing couch cushion.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place on December 7, but was not reported until several days later. Rachel Sr. became enraged when he discovered the displaced couch cushion and accused the child of lying about it. He then proceeded to verbally and physically assault the child in a malicious manner for nearly half an hour.
During the ordeal, the victim was struck with a belt over 50 times, choked, and subjected to derogatory language and threats of violence. At one point, Rachel Sr. even threatened to break the child’s jaw, leaving the young victim traumatized and in fear for their safety.
Surveillance cameras in the home captured some of the abuse, providing evidence for the investigation. On December 16, deputies interviewed Kimberly Rachel, 35, who confirmed the incident. She was subsequently arrested and charged with failure to report known child abuse.
This shocking case serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding children from harm and reporting any suspected abuse promptly. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, especially the most vulnerable members of the community.
